FICHTELSEE
One of the most popular hiking destinations in the Fichtelgebirg region. It lies north of the climatic spa of Fichtelberg, at an altitude of about 750 metres.
It offers a breathtaking scenery as the highest mountains of the Fichtelgebirge, the Schneeberg and the Ochsenkopf, embrace it.
In summer it is a first choice for swimming, boating or long walks.
Hiking around Ochsenkopf
Both the Ochsenkopf (1024 metres) and the Schneeberg (1053 metres) offer unsurpassed experiences and views.
The hiking trails lead past imposing rock giants and cool mountain streams to the sources of the Main, Saale, Eger and Naab rivers.
Bicycle & Mountain Bike
For racing cyclists, there are beautifully paved roads, and for recreational cyclists there are gently ascending forest trails with wonderful panoramic views.
Mountain cyclists will find a varied network of routes through forests and hills, with gentle and extreme climbs to suit their taste.
For the strongest mountain cyclists, climbing the Ochsenkopf with its 1000 m altitude is a "bucket list" challenge.
Winter sports at Ochsenkopf
Winter sports enthusiasts will find plenty of variety on the Ochsenkopf: experience two of the longest downhill runs in Northern Bavaria.
The 2.3-kilometre-long northern (snow-bedded) run leads to Fröbershammer in the municipality of Bischofsgrün, while the 1.9-kilometre-long southern run leads to Fleckl in the municipality of Warmensteinach.
Beginners and families alike will feel at home. Two lifts take skiers from Bischofsgrün and Fleckl to the summit.
